South Metro Fire Rescue Professional 911 Dispatchers are asking for a YES vote on S 725 (Enhancing First Response Act) to reclassify 911 Dispatchers as a protective service occupation.

  • Public Safety Telecommunicator are essential to interagency emergency operations for large scale events such as active assailants, civil unrest, wild fires, natural disasters, and more.

  • Public Safety Telecommunicators play a critical role in emergency response, acting as the first point of contact for citizens needing emergency services. 
  • Public Safety Telecommunicator are essential to interagency emergency operations for large scale events such as active assailants, civil unrest, wild fires, natural disasters, and more.
  • Public Safety Telecommunicators are exposed to workplace stress and trauma that may lead to the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Classifying Public Safety Telecommunicators as a Protective Service Occupation would recognize them for the lifesaving work they perform, correct an inaccurate representation in the Standard Occupational Classification, and better align the Standard Occupational Classification with related classification systems

  • Colorado is third in the nation, with Public Safety Telecommunicators processing an average of 3,351,479  911 calls per year, or 9,182 calls per day across the states 86 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP's).
